Your tooth or teeth are about to be prepared for a crown. The tooth/teeth will be shaped, an impression will be taken and a temporary crown will be place to cover the preparation until the permanent crown(s) is delivered in 2 weeks.
There is normally very little, if any, discomfort experienced afterward. If you do experience more than mild discomfort, please contact this office.
When the preparation involves an area close to the nerve, there can be sensitivity to hot and cold. If the nerve does not calm down, root canal treatment may be required.
You will be appointed to come back in 2 weeks for crown(s) delivery. It is essential that the crown is delivered in 2 to 3 weeks. The preparation area can change and the crown might not fit after that time. If you wait too long and your crown no longer fits, there will be another charge to make another crown.
The entire cost of the crown is incurred on the first visit. There is no charge for the delivery. We will allow you to divide the cost into 1/2 on the initial visit and the balance on delivery. This service is for your convenience.
This information also applies to Bridgework also. Bridgework is comprised of several units of crowns connected.
If you have insurance, you are required to pay that portion not covered by your policy. This can be done in 2 equal payments as described above. |
Our office will take impressions for your new denture(s). If you wish specifics on your denture(s), such as a space between front teeth or gold, please advise the doctor.
You will be asked to return for a "try in". This will enable you to see the denture(s) set-up but unfinished and see how they feel. You will also be able to check the bite and see how they look. Then the lab will finish them and we will have them ready for delivery shortly.
Every person's mouth responds differently. Some people reline often, some rarely and a few never.
A soft reline take a few minutes; a hard reline requires one full day.
There are not included in the price of your denture(s).
Some people require denture adjustments. There is no charge adjustments. Please do not try to adjust the denture yourself. You can create problems that are difficult and costly to overcome.
We know you will appreciate the care and workmanship that goes into the denture(s) and we are pleased we can give you a beautiful smile. |
Root Canal Therapy (endodontics) treats disorders of the nerve (pulp) of the tooth. It used to be that a tooth with a diseased or infected nerve had to be removed. In 95% of these cases today, however, this is no longer true. We believe in saving teeth (instead of removing them) and we will make every effort to save yours.
Why do I need a Root Canal? There are several reasons, the most important are:
Trauma: A physical blow to a tooth or constant striking of a tooth in the opposite jaw that traumatizes the tooth.
Physical irritation: Deep decay or a very large filling.
Regardless of the initial cause, the tooth pulp becomes irritated and an abscess (infection) occurs. Bacteria from your saliva grows within the tooth pulp, causing pressure and pain. In some cases the face may swell. Eventually the pulp dies, causing the bone around the tooth to be destroyed.
What's going to happen?
Once it has been determined (with X-rays and clinical examination) that root canal treatment is necessary, you will be scheduled for one or more appointments. It is important that you keep these appointments, in order to prevent delays in treatment and healing. It is also essential that you take all antibotics and medications prescribed to you to hasten healing and reduce swelling. Should you experience pain that cannot be controlled with prescribed medication (this is unusual) call our office immediately.
Here is how your tooth can be saved without endodontic treatment:
An opening is made through the crown into the pulp. We then carefully remove the diseased pulp. The root canal area inside your tooth is cleaned, enlarged and shaped. Then, depending on your individual case, the root canal(s) and pulp chamber may be permanently filled and sealed. In some cases, we place a temporary medication in the tooth to control bacterial growth and reduce infection.
A temporary filling is placed in the opening of the tooth until the next visit. In some cases, however, the tooth may be left open. This allows the infection to drain.
At the next appointment we sterilize the inside of the tooth to remove the bacteria. Throughout the root canal procedure, we take x-rays to ensure that all of the infected pulp is removed and that all the walls inside the canal are smooth.
The root canal and pulp chamber are permanently filled and sealed.
Finally, the tooth is fully restored to chewing function. This can be done with a filling or a crown. If there is not enough tooth to hold a filling, a crown would be your option. After a root canal, the tooth becomes brittle and is more susceptible to fracture. Therefore, we recommend that your root canal tooth be crowned following treatment. The final restoration filling or crown is not included in the price of the root canal. The final restoration should be done within 10 days to two weeks after treatment to ensure that success of preserving the tooth is achieved.
If you have further questions
Throughout your root canal treatment you may have questions or concerns not covered here. We will make every effort to ensure your comfort. And we are happy to answer any questions you may have. Our concern is your comfort and confidence. Our goal is to help preserve your natural teeth for a lifetime. |
The Norwalk Dental Center offers a whitening procedure that is safe, sure, easy and affordable. This is a process that can be done in your own home removes stains, discoloration left by food, smoking, soft drinks and red wine that can be done in your own home.
After a routing pre-treatment examination we will take an impression of your teeth and from that impression we will make a model. Using the model, we will fabricate a custom fitted whitening tray from a soft, comfortable plastic.
The product used to whiten your teeth is carbamide peroxide and it comes in a clear, lightly flavored gel. The gel is placed in the soft plastic whitening tray that fits comfortably over your teeth. Once the gel comes in contact with your teeth it begins to release the carbamide peroxide and the peroxide in turn gently removes the stains and discoloration.
It takes two weeks to whiten your teeth. If you teeth are badly stained, or if the stains are caused by antibiotics, it will take longer. |
